Vacation Day 1 and Day 2

So... we are in San Diego, but it was a very long trip to get here.  We started our journey on Thursday at about 3:30 in the afternoon.  Our oldest had cub scout camp this week and we decided to pick him up 30 minutes early, so that we could head out.

That night we had a picnic and drove as long as we could.  With us being Texans the longest part of our trip is just getting out of our state.  We ended up pulling over around Midland (which is the butt crack of no where) and sleeping in the van for a few hours.

Friday morning we woke up, had breakfast at Denny's and headed out again.  We weren't in a hurry so we pulled over and hiked a few trails to some scenic overlooks, and ended up having a picnic when we crossed into New Mexico.  I love having picnics because it gives the kiddos a little bit of time to run and play and saves us from eating an expensive and extremely unhealthy fast food meal.

That evening we stopped and had dinner at Texas Roadhouse, in Arizona, where it was 115 degrees!!!  It was pretty hot.  This year we have had a very mild summer at home, and have had a ton of rain, so I had forgotten how hot 115 feels, although our heat is much more humid.

(Door handles were too hot)
Our kiddos were impressed with the desert and my husband loved the cacti.  I am not a fan of the desert and after a while we all got kind of tired of it.

Stay tuned to hear what we are up to next!
